The good news is that we have software capable of catching most comments of such a nature which actually begs for the question: why do they still do it? Well, as it happens, links that are posted in comments actually count as backlinks to your website and they can help your standings in the search engines.

What those afore-mentioned spammers do not seem to realize though is that Google’s algorithmic changes have made it so that their type of content is devalued; instead, only natural, organic links are given any kind of value.     By making your site standards-compliant it is possible to get backlinks from governmental recourses and authoritative directories

    Sell products on eBay and give a percentage of the money to charities. Ask those charities to link back to you

    Find Internet radio stations and submit your music requests on behalf of your URL

  4. Charities

    Donate to local charities that link back to their donor’s site

  5. Non-profit organizations

    The idea is like before. Donate to local non-profit organizations for a backlinks

  6. Coupon codes

    Create a coupon code for your services and submit them to coupon sharing websites and blogs

  7. Blog carnivals

    Find or create a blog carnival related to your blog, write a post for it and submit it to the main blog carnival website

  8. 101 lists

    101 lists used to get Dugg and thus can get tons of traffic

  9. Top 10 lists

    The idea is the same as 101 lists. People love those lists and tend to link to and share them

  10. Resource Lists

    Needless to say much. The concept is the same as before

  11. Tracking

    Track who picks up your articles or press releases and contact them offering exclusive news and content

  12. Trade

    Contact webmasters on your niche and trade articles with them

  13. Surveys and studies

    Perform surveys and studies on your site. People that take part on surveys tend to be willing to promote them

  14. Library links

    List your site at the local library’s website.

  15. Affiliate program

    launch your own affiliate program and give affiliates all the needed tools to promote your site.

  16. CSS redesign

    An unusual and nice CSS design can get you backlinks from sites like css vault.

  17. Link swapping

    I don’t suggest link farm of course. Link swapping in a low extend can be effective and create quality backlinks for you.

  18. Toll collections

    Build a tool collection and share it with others. Don’t forget to add a link back to your site

  19. Free samples

    The idea is similar with on-line giveaways and coupons.

  20. Interview others

    Host interviews with popular people of your niche and ask them to link to it from their websites.

  21. Elance

    Even if you do not want to work as a freelancer you can always create an elance profile and link

    back to your site as an example of your work.

  22. Press conference

    This is a bit difficult but it can be create many free one way links. Call the press to present some idea or service that you offer. This way press will add a link to your site.

  23. WSO

    A warrior special offer is a great way to create a backlink which can also become popular and result to an increase of your traffic.

  24. List of experts

    Create a list of experts in your niche and invite them to link back to it.

  25. Embeddable Games

    Create games that webmasters can embed to their site for free. This will soon become viral and you will create a lot of free backlinks.

  26. Embeddable Tools

    This works as before with the difference that now you will distribute tools, such as counters, calculators etc

  27. Free e-mail

    Offering a free e-mail is an old school technique but can still bring you may one way links

  28. Facebook application

    Creating a Facebook application is a very quick way to build backlinks.

  29. Run an event

    Run an event on your site and let people know about it. If it is an interesting one many people will participate and be willing o link back to you.

  30. Twitter application

    This is the same idea as a Facebook application. Sponsor or create one for great exposure.

  31. Patents

    Amazon recently applied for a patent on airbags for tablet computer and earned tons of free links and of course publicity. If you have an “weird” idea you can do the same.

As you see, this list contains everything. Common ideas, some controversial ones and some really difficult to do. The truth is that all of them work great, so just try them… you have nothing to loose.

  1. MyLot

    MyLot is a forum that pays you to participate in discussions. The idea is the same as before. You can make money and add your links at the same time

  2. Slideshows

    Create presentations which contain a link to your site and share them in free slide distribution sites, such as SlideShare

  3. Blog networks

    Search for relevant blog networks and write a column for them. Use your author box to add a backlinks.

  4. Magazines

    Search for relevant magazines and contact them asking to write an article. Add a link to your author box as always

  5. Bukisa

    Although you cannot add a link to the content you submit in Bukisa, you can add a link to your profile page

  6. Discussion Groups

    Join or create a discussion group and participate on it. If you are the admin, just stick a link to your site

  7. Google places

    If you have a local site or business join Google places and create a profile mentioning your site

  8. PRL products

    Create Private Label Products and include backlinks on them

  9. H.A.R.O.

    Many journalists are looking for people to interview on several topics. Join H.A.R.O. (HelpAReporterOut) and watch out to find someone to interview you.

  10. Sponsor a contest

    Sponsor or host a contest on your site. It will create buzz and lots of backlinks

  11. Podcasts

    A podcast itself will not give you a backlink of course, but the profile of it posted in various sites will do.

  12. Pay Per Click advertising

    Google, Yahoo and many other search engines offer coupons for free pay per click ads. Take advantage of them

  13. Better Business Bureau

    This is typical. Join Better Business Bureau to create traffic and links

  14. Local Chamber of Commerce

    This is the same concept as before

  15. Government Resources

    Request links from relevant government and council resources and websites

  16. Amazon reviews

    Find relevant products that are for sale on Amazon and write reviews for them

  17. Alexa reviews

    This works as the idea with Amazon. Find relevant sites and review them

  18. Shopping search engines reviews

    Go to shopping search engines such as ePenions, and review relevant products that you find

  19. Outbound links

    Link to other blogs from your site. Most bloggers use trackbacks and thus a backlink is created automatically.

  20. Technorati

    Join technorati, create a profile and add your blogs. Tag your post will relevant tags and have it featured on the Technorati tag pages

    Upload videos to YouTube and add a link on the description of it. Don’t forget to add several tags and a description and share it with others

  4. YouTube comments

    Find and watch relevant videos on YouTube and leave informative comments adding your link

  5. Wikis

    Create pages in wikis about your site or about your niche adding a source link back to you

  6. Photo sharing sites

    Join photo sharing websites, upload your photos with your link and share them

  7. Scoop.it

    With scoop.it you can create digital magazines using content from other websites. You can create your own magazine or suggest content to an existing one

  8. Web 2.0

    Create web 2.0 pages with unique content and point back to your site

  9. SheToldMe

    The concept of this site is similar to Digg with the difference that in this case your burbs should be unique

  10. Facebook Fan Page

    Create a Facebook fan page for your site and start making posts. Don’t forget to customize your page’s URL and of course add a backlink to your main site

  11. Other Facebook pages

    Participate in discussions that take place in other languages, leave comments and add your link. If you do not overdo it your comment will not be flagged as spam and your link will remain

  12. Twitter and Synnd

    Those two sites give a social proof to Google and they also create valuable links

  13. Linkedln

    Join Linkedln and add your link to your profile. Take some time to customize your profile (as always) to make it attractive and effective

  14. MySpace

    Even if MySpace is not as hot as it used to be, it is still a great place to add a backlink

  15. RedGage

    RedGage is a website that pays you for your content and monetizes your social activity. It is a nice place to make some money while building links

  5. White papers

    Publish your white papers to as many sites as you can

  6. Ebook directories

  7. Syndication

  9. Micro-sites

    Create micro-sites on your niche and link to your main site

    Create torrent for your free ebook and add them to torrent networks

  15. P2P networks

    It works like the previous example. Create several files and upload them to pear2pear networks

  16. Yahoo answers

    Join yahoo answers (and other similar sites) and start answering questions adding a link to the resource box.

  17. Classified ads

    Post classified ads to several websites adding a backlink. Craigslist.org is a great place to start

  18. Social Bookmarking Sites

    Add your links to social bookmarking sites

  19. Social Networking Sites

    Share your sites/articles with your friends in social networking sites

  20. Hubs and Lenses

    Create hubs and lenses for quality backlinks. Start by joining hub pages and squidoo

How to get edu backlinks

A few days ago we discussed about the importance of .edu and .gov backlinks and how they can affect a website’s rankings. (If you do not know what I am talking about please read “.edu and .gov vs  .com backlinks“).

Before we see how you can find FREE .edu backlinks, let’s take a moment to go through .edu sites’ types

  1. edu blogs: These are normally personal blogs that have created to a college or university domain name, by its students, researchers or professors.
