Fan page design

It’s no secret to web designers and internet marketers that fan pages are a huge asset when trying to promote an online product or website. They deliver a great opportunity to get your product shared by people to a huge yet targeted audience, because of this it is uncommon to find any website or online business without at least a Facebook fan page or twitter account, but how much attention are we actually paying to these fan pages?

With this recent trend more and more fan pages are being made and with this increase in number the creators of the pages need to do more to make their page and product stand out amongst the crowd, this is where fan page design comes in. The design of the fan page plays a crucial role in making the page and the company behind the page stand out from the crowd.

What is fan page design?

Many people consider fan page’s to be something that can do quickly just adding a logo as their profile picture and updating their page every once and a while with the latest happenings on their products, this however is not the case. A well designed fan page should have a great cover photo one that showcases and explains exactly what the product or website is about. When someone likes the page it will show up in their news feed and their friends will most likely look at it to see what it’s all about, these friends want to know instantly what the page and company it is representing is about so they can decide whether or not they want to look deeper into it, a great cover photo can provide this kind of clarity for them.

Another thing to consider when designing your fan page is perhaps adding a landing page, many websites like Facebook have the ability to add landing pages and direct links to these pages are available for website owners to post on their own site and share with others. I personally use a landing page with a quick description of what my blog is about and who I am so new visitors to my websites fan page know exactly what it’s about before being bombarded with information on the wall of my actual page.

How to design a fan page?

There are a few ways to make a great landing page and they all come down to what you want. Personally my fan page doesn’t have a cover photo but it does have a landing page that I share the link to on my own website. This is a personal decision as to how you want your company represented and weather a cover photo will suit what you are marketing on the social media networks or not. If you chose to have a cover photo you can make one yourself of even find a freelancer or pay a company to create one for you, depending on your budget, this is true also for landing page’s with a few Facebook apps offering free and paid for versions of them depending on your needs.

The design of fan pages plays a vital role in the number of likes and shares they get as well as the number of visitors that they drive to your website which is their ultimate goal. They are a vital part of any marketing strategy and in my opinion with just a little extra effort and care paid to them you will see a great return in likes and visitors.
