Eco Friendly iPads

With the increasing pollution of the environment, climate change and rise in carbon emissions, many corporations are looking for ways to cut costs related to fossil fuels. In our technological revolution, one such relic from the past that is going the way of the dodo is the paper industry. With new directions in tablet devices with highly specialized and high-quality displays such as the latest iPad, or the “electronic paper” devices currently in development, we are on the threshold of another revolution, when paper truly becomes redundant and everyone will have lightweight sheets that are really powerful computers.

The reality today

While the above picture is very optimistic, the reality is that there are quite a few creative ways to use iPads and other tablet devices in a company to save on paper and to help the environment.

Many offices and corporations have traditionally used up a lot of paper photocopying material that is supposed to be informational or for reference. Not to mention the fact that whether CEOs were happy or not, company resources are always going to be used in some way for personal reasons as well.

Just think: a portable computing device such as an iPad in every staff members’ hand would completely remove the need for paper as all tasks could be done in the field using various wireless technologies to interoperate between staff.

Unifying your staff tech

As you can imagine, the benefits of unifying the tech that staff use to interact between departments and within departments is immense. At the moment, your staff are probably transferring data by using email or printing. The first is impersonal and the second is wasteful of paper. With the simple addition of an iPad to the staff workflow, you allow them to interact more by encouraging them to move about while they work. Staff interaction will increase direct communication where verbal gestures and cues can be used to express more meaning, resulting in better productivity from staff. Morale can also increase as the work description includes productive interaction with other staff as opposed to being trapped in a cubicle or an office alone.

There are other health benefits to moving to a tablet device culture in your office related to morale. Simply by walking about the office more, staff are encouraged to be more physically active which can seriously improve their fitness levels as well.
