Fan page id – Where is it?

This may seem as an off-topic discussion, but it is actually not. Facebook can be a great source of free traffic for your site and thus you should know how to use it properly.

When I am thinking about facebook traffic, a couple of things come to my mind:

  1. My fan page (If you haven’t done already, please take a moment to like it here: http://www.facebook.com/ilianalolapage)
  2. The likes that I have
  3. How to automatically post to my page from my blog

Everything seems simple until the part that I need my facebook fanpage ID…

Tricky, isn’t it?

Well, the facebook fan page ID is not the personal profile id, not the page’s user name, nor it’s URL. It is a unique number assigned to your page.

It’s actually pretty easy to find. Continue reading

What is a back link?

What is a back link?

Chris asked me yesterday… and it was then that I understood that although I have written so many articles about link building, I haven’t really explained what a backlink is and why it is important.

I am really sorry about that… it seems that for a moment I forgot that this is a blog mainly for newbies…

Anyway, never is too late, right?

What is a backlink?

Backlinks, also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links, are incoming links to a website or web page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node.

This is pretty much all you need to know about the definition of backlinks. The important thing though is why backlinks are important… Continue reading

How to get edu backlinks

A few days ago we discussed about the importance of .edu and .gov backlinks and how they can affect a website’s rankings. (If you do not know what I am talking about please read “.edu and .gov vs  .com backlinks“).

Before we see how you can find FREE .edu backlinks, let’s take a moment to go through .edu sites’ types

  1. edu blogs: These are normally personal blogs that have created to a college or university domain name, by its students, researchers or professors.
  2. edu forums: Most educational institutions use forums to provide support to their students. Obviously you will need to join them in order to be able to comment and create a profile on them, but it is worth the effort.
  3. edu wikis: Sites like wikipedia, where you can create content

OK, I think you got the idea… let’s move to the interesting part…. Continue reading

What is Bounce Rate & How to reduce it

There is a lot of discussion around bounce rate, what it is, how it affects a site’s rankings etc. Most people know what bounce rate is, but very few understand how it can actually be reduced.

Well, first things first, let’s see what bounce rate is.

Bounce rate is an Internet Marketing term used in web traffic analysis. It represents the percentage of visitors who enter the site and “bounce” (leave the site) rather than continue viewing other pages within the same site….Bounce rates can be used to help determine the effectiveness or performance of an entry page. An entry page with a low bounce rate means that the page effectively causes visitors to view more pages and continue on deeper into the web site

What is Link Bait?

Link bait is any content or feature, within a website, designed specifically to gain attention or encourage others to link to the website. Matt Cutts defines link bait as anything “interesting enough to catch people’s attention.” Link bait can be an extremely powerful form of marketing as it is viral in nature. The term often has a negative or dismissive connotation. The content for link baiting would be a text, image, audio or video clip and it interesting enough to catch the people’s attention.

If we examine the terminology of linkbaiting we will conclude that it is something really bad that we should avoid.

Bait is any substance used to attract prey, e.g. in a mousetrap.

But, what is really the truth? Continue reading

Undesired inbound links…

After Google’s Panda update many webmasters stared to worry about undesired inbound links.

There is a great debate on whether or not those links can harm a site and the truth is that we do not know which is the correct answer for sure. The most possible thing is that Google  just wont give you credit for this kind of links and thus you have nothing to worry about.

But, what Matt Cutts has to say about it? Continue reading

My SEO book is now live!

How to Survive the Upcoming Google UpdateThree weeks ago I made a post about my effort on writing a book where I would facilitate webmasters dealing with the upcoming Google update. Me, among a few people around the net, feel that this new upcoming update will change the way webmasters and users (in a much less extent) interact with Google.

There are many reasons why I feel this is the case like the unjustifiable delay on PageRank update and the unprecedented case of an official employ of Google (Matt Cutts) revealing the update before it actually occurs. I am very happy that I managed to finish the book and according of some very good friends of mine (SEO experts) the eBook achieves not only to give an insight of what is lying ahead , but how to deal with it as efficiently as possible as well.

I honestly hope that they are right because I spent a lot of time gathering info ,filtering them, trying to find the hidden meanings and so on. The book has the obvious title “How to Survive the Upcoming Google Update

I hope you find it as useful as my intention for it was.

Link Wheel – White hat technique or not?

Most people say that link wheel is a grey hat SEO technique, while other agree that it is for sure a black hat one, that’s why you should avoid it.

For me, both are wrong!

Link wheel is a white hat SEO technique, a totally safe one if you know how to use it.

Ancient Greeks had a saying. They used to say:

Every measure is the best (Παν Μέτρον Άριστον)

which simply means that you should never overdo it. Continue reading
